Often March 15th is a day full of mischief and mayhem. However, this year, thanks to my students, we had a very pleasant day. All of my students did a great job at restraining from pinching others. The leprechaun's did steal my badge and whistle, but they were later found in the staff room. Phew! At the end of the day we celebrated Alisia's birthday with green cupcakes and a book. Fun times! Today's Topics Writing: 5 paragraph informative essays Specials: Music Reading: Comprehension Skills and Smarter Balanced Test Prep Math: Mult. and Div. testing Discovery: Alisia Day and St. Patrick's Day It's been quite a while since I've visited my Weebly page and I'm starting to miss it. This is a great place for me to place helpful links, important dates, and classroom updates. The kids most enjoy when I add class pictures.
We are officially half way through the year. Wow! My students are ready to really start applying what they know. We are deep into our major unit on multiplication and division. So far, I am very impressed with the growth our students have made. Report cards will come home on Friday. Be sure to contact me with any question s you have about your child's progress after viewing it. Don't forget to send the envelope back with your signature! I haven't been able to blog for awhile for many reasons. Regardless, my students have been doing wonderful things in the classroom. Kyra and Peyton earned achievment awards in the graphing unit of math. Shannon wowed us all with her commitment to challenging herself on MobyMax. Peyton and Kiara are the current keepers of the Super Tribbles. And all of my students have shown that they are ready to come back from break and dig into 3rd grade. We have such a great group of kids! Today my students experimented with a new academic site. MobyMax provides instruction in reading and math at the level of the student. They start by taking a test (no parent help please). The test helps determine what the student needs to work on, supporting struggling learners and challenging those who have mastered 3rd grade materials. It's actually pretty cool. The kids can even earn game time and prizes. I especially like the math fact practice. Check it out from my list of favorite sites.
Tribble Winners: Matthew and Me! Our class has been making great strides towards excellent attendance. Near the office you might notice a list of students with perfect or near perfect attendance. Take a moment to look for our class list and see if your child's name is there. Each of these children have been recognized for their commitment to be to school on time. Our class as a whole has also been congratulated for our efforts. Thank you for your part in keeping your children healthy, energetic, and ready to learn.
Who will be the tribble winner this week? No one! It's a tie and I simply can not decide which one of my wonderful students deserves the privilege the most. Instead, we will continue the tribble contest into this next week. Last week's Super Tribble winners were Hannah and Gabe. Keep up the good work! Specials: M/W=P.E. T=Music Yes, I know I usually have one picture and write up a blurb. I just couldn't help myself! I needed all four! I'll let your children explain them to you.
Specials: T/Th Music, W/F P.E. Super Tribble Winners: Avery and Tony Most Math Growth: Alanny Wow! Our students did wonderfully on the post test for chapter 3 in math. We had so many kids earn 100% they almost didn't fit in the photo. Keep focused kids! Let's see who will earn the certificates of recognition for chapter 4. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to meet with me for conferences. It was nice to connect faces with names and set goals together. If you have additional questions always feel free to email me. Specials M/W/F Music T/Th PE Tribble Winner: ME! What a beautiful week! Our children enjoyed many opportunities to play outside and enjoy the weather. Despite the sun being out, the cold and flu bugs seem to be on the rise. I'll do my best to continue healthy habits like hand washing in the classroom. Please make sure your child is eating well and getting plenty of sleep. We have started a new chapter of geometry. This is complex and fun stuff! We will being learning about congruent and similar figures, more polygons, symmetry, angles, and types of triangles. You can support our studies by engaging in "math talk" around the dinner table. Specials M/W: PE T: Music No School on Thursday and Friday for Conferences Super Tribble Winners: Hannah and Peyton I did not meet my goal of writing this weekend. Rather than waiting until the next I thought I would write now. There will be times that your child does not meet their goals either. It is important for them to know that each day they can start fresh and approach it from a new angle. In my reading class we have compared this concepts to playing video games. When you play, you are trying to beat the high score. You do not get upset with yourself if you don't make it; you just try again with a new perspective. A chicken did visit our class today. Brave Ms. Woods walked around the ENTIRE school day in her chicken suit to celebrate the high level of participation for Jog-A-Thon. Our class will be celebrating this again since we won the highest level of participation for 3rd grade. Congratulations and thanks to all the families that helped. The money from this event goes to field trips and necessary supplies for the classroom. AuthorI am both a teacher and parent at Durham Elementary. This is 13th year at Durham, eight of which have been in third grade. Where has the time gone? When I'm not teaching, I'm either playing with my 5 "home kids" or reading a book. Categories |
